REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PRIESTHOOD

Entering the Seminary

The following is the four-step process for applying to the Seminary.

  1. Contact the Vocation Director to discuss your call and to assess the possibility of a priestly vocation.

  2. Participate in discernment events, including:
    1. Discernment Group
    2. Priesthood Discernment Retreat
    3. Andrew Dinner with parish priests or bishops
    4. Regular meetings with the Vocation Director and Spiritual Director

  3. Receive a formal assessment by the Vocation Office, including:
    1. Personal interviews by the assessment team
    2. Psychological examination, background reviews, health exams

      The following documentation will be reviewed:

      (a) Recommendations from employers, educators, or pastors.
      (b) Baptismal and confirmation certificates.
      (c) School transcripts, GRE testing, TOFEL (English as a second language). Plus, if necessary


  4. An interview with the Admissions Committee at St. John Seminary or, if a collegian, the Juan Diego House of Formation

  5. A complete background check and VIRTUS training
