Master of Divinity Degree:
This is the first professional degree you can earn at St. John's
Master of Arts:
You can also concurrently earn a master of Arts Degree in Theoloy if you are interested in theological studies and research (eligibility required)
Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry
This program is offered to non-semniarians who are interested in lay ministry i.e. working in the Church alongside bishops, priests, theologists as pastoral ministers but do not seek to be ordained
House of Formation:
St. John's Seminary is more than just an institute of higher learning that offers a Master of Divinity and Masters of Arts degrees. It is also a house of formation. Students learn to live more intensely as disciple of Jesus Christ and to grow in holiness while preparing fopr the ministry in the Catholic church preparation.
It seeks to offer its seminarians an opportunity to grow profoundly in the knowledge of Christ and His people. It does this by focusing on the 4 major themes of formation from Pope John Paul's Apostolic Exhortation, Pastores Dabo Vobis.
The seminary's primary purpose is to prepare candidates for service as priests in the Roman Catholic Church. This preparationis carried out according to the prescriptions of the Church and standards of the seminary's accrediting agencies.
Priests are disciples of Jesus Christ, ordained to pastor the community of faith through the ministry of Word and Sacrament, especially the Eucharist.
The principle focus of the seminary is the formation of candidates for the diocesan presbyterate within the Unites States, especially the Southwest, as well as preparing candidates form religious communities for the presbyterate. This focus also includes the secondary task of forming deacons, religious and lay leaders.
In carrying on the mission, St. John's seminary is commited to the principles of multi-cultural sensitivity and collaboration in all aspects of formation. Since the seminary administers all phases of formation, the human, spiritual, academic pastoral and communal dimensions are integrated in an effort to provide a multiculturaland collaborative approach to formationfor life an ecclestial ministry.
